Cu Chi tunnels & Vietnamese Craft Villages

Tour Itinerary

08:00 Pick up at your hotel and drive to Cu Chi (75 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City). Arrive at the tunnels to visit Cu Chi tunnels, an amazing complex of underground tunnels the former stronghold of Viet Cong with a network of tunnels stretching over 200km, parts of which was several stories deep, consists of innumerable trap doors, constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command center and kitchens.

Watch a short introductory video showing how the tunnels were constructed. Also on displaying are various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. We then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels to see the first hand how the Vietcong communists were able to survive in this underground network.

Have lunch at restaurant, then continue driving to Vietnamese craft villages (Mot Thoang Viet Nam), located at Phu Binh village nearby. We will observe on-the-spot how craft persons weave Tho Cam (ethnic brocade fiber), carve wooden logs into wonders and weave rattan into home appliances. The quarter of craft villages at Mot Thoang Vietnam is quiet, but not boring as craft persons chat amidst the clacking sound of wooden cudgels hitting a chisel caused by a sculptor or a loom used for weaving cloth. Sitting a little far from the sculptor and the weaver are the craftsmen and women in their simple but unique attire making Giay Gio (poonah paper) and inlaid gold-leaf items, doing the embroidery and the farming.
